This sequence is of the 3rd of the 4 pieces in the suite
from Rimsky-Korsakov's opera "Coq d'Or", AKA Zolotoi Petukh
or the Golden Cockerel. Its subtitle is "Dodon and Shemakha",
referring to the aptly-named (just drop the "n") dope of
a king and the queen (not his wife) who swindles him out of
his kingdom.
I've sequenced the piece for the Proteus 2 but, due to
the number of instruments I needed to use the One Stop Music
Shop's (Proteus on an audio card) Piccolo program. Inasmuch
as the OSMS' Piccolo program does not automatically transpose
up one octave like the Proteus 2's, I've taken the liberty of
doing so in the Piccolo track. The other non-Proteus 2 program
I've used is OSMS's Pizzicato program for the Pizzicat Violins.
Generally I reduce the volume on the Proteus 2's pizzicato
programs because they're loud, but in this track I've left them
as in the score since OSMS's pizzicato program more accurately
reflects the instrument's dynamics.
Inasmuch as there are changes between A and Bb Clarinets and
Bass Clarinets, I've given each their own track. In any case,
all instruments have been transposed to C.
[For Proteus 2 owners]: I use a custom English Horn program
in location 64 to extend the range beyond what E-mu gave it.
Finally, for Proteus 2 owners who do not have Bars&Pipes
Professional, I've transposes up the Trombones&Tuba program
by an octave because E-mu transposes it down an octave.
The last piece in the suite will follow in due course.
For those of you who haven't read the opera :-), it's entitled
"Bridal Procession and the Lamentable End of King Dodon"
(well, I WARNED you!) :-)
